Cashmere Market Report
MARCH/APRIL 2003
China - March/April 2003
Long white qualities have eased slightly over the past few weeks due to low export demand, and stock holders are keen to liquidate into cash ready to buy the new clip. Current prices are below cost and levels could increase in the near future as Dehairers fight for the best quality new material. Last year was very successful for Chinese Exporters with several million Sweaters and 4,000,000 kilos Dehaired Cashmere sold overseas. As a result, the ‘Big Players’ have plenty of their own money available to purchase raw material. Shorter types remain very firm in price as Domestic Manufacturers use 26-32mm for Sweater production.
There is still some fibre from last year’s clip available, but not enough to depress prices and good quality types can be difficult to source on demand.
